The spouse of a U.S. diplomat, responding to GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry’s assertion that he’s not sure U.S. diplomats and the State Department are “making decisions or giving advice to the administration that’s in this country’s best interest.”

The American Foreign Service Association also issued a response that said Perry’s comments about diplomats “reflect a serious misunderstanding of their role in promoting American interests overseas.”

Thank you, undiplomatic wife of a diplomat, for confirming what Perry was saying in the minds of all the people who were paying attention to it. 

By the way, I can say from many conversations with many sources familiar with the matter, that at least the foreign service of France, and probably of every country because it’s the nature of these kinds of things, acts as a “deep state” with its own agendas independent from those of elected politicians. But why should I say so when the best authority on public choice theory, Yes Prime Minister, does it better than I can.
